Advice For The Young At Heart

I'm not sure if this happens to other types of bloggers, but I notice that HR bloggers seem to go through periods where they express, "Should I continue?"

I've been there before. But fortunately this great community of HR blog writers has grabbed me by the elbows and hoisted me back on my feet. And sent me back on my way.

Since I've noticed a few posts on the subject or words of self-doubt within some posts lately, I want to hoist you up by saying two things.  And also to show that one of the great things about having your own blog, is you don't have to say it.  You can post what others have said.  Sometimes there is no point in reinventing the wheel.

First:
"The writer must write what he has to say, not speak it" - Ernest Hemingway

Second:
"Advice for the young at heart, soon we will be older
When we gonna make it work

Too many people living in a secret world
While they play mothers and fathers
We play little boys and girls when we're gonna make it work
I could be happy, I could be quite naïve, it's only me and my shadow
Happy in our make believe, soon
And with the hounds at bay I'll call your bluff, hey
'Cause it would be okay to walk on tiptoes every day

And when I think of you and all the love that's due
I'll make a promise, I'll make a stand
'Cause to these big brown eyes this comes as no surprise
We've got the whole wide world in our hands

Advice for the young at heart, soon we will be older
When we're gonna make it work

Love is a promise, love is a souvenir
Once given never forgotten, never let it disappear
This could be our last chance
When we're gonna make it work, working hour is over

And how it makes me weep, 'cause someone sent my soul to sleep

And when I think of you and all the love that's due
I'll make a promise, I'll make a stand
'Cause to these big brown eyes this comes as no surprise
We've got the whole wide world in our hands

(We've got the whole wide world in our hands)
(We've got the whole wide world in our hands…In our hands)

Advice for the young at heart, soon we will be older
When we're gonna make it work
Advice for the young at heart, soon we will be older
When we're gonna make it work (Working hour is over)

We can do anything that we want, anything that we feel like doing"

"Advice For The Young At Heart" by Roland Orzabal and Nicky Holland, 1989

Remember: if you love writing and you love the HR profession, no matter how many comments or subscribers you have.....never...ever...stop. Period.

Thanks for the boost Paul. I have been there more than once, have had my share of community boosts, and know I'll be there again. Each and every time I think, "is it worth it?" and for anyone that is wondering . . .yes, yes it is.

Thanks for the words of wisdom, Paul. Exactly what I needed to read after being MIA.

I agree with Michael. I wish all HR folks were as straightforward and insightful. In fact, you can remove the "HR" qualifier.
